Richard G. Wanderman, M.D. was born in New York City on April 17, 1943, and grew up in Westchester County, NY. He graduated from Horace Mann School in Riverdale, NY in 1961, Western Reserve University (now Case Western Reserve University) in Cleveland, OH in 1965, and Downstate Medical Center, State University of New York in 1969.
He trained in Pediatrics and maintained a solo practice for the vast majority of the years since. He has also practiced Clinical Ecology and Environmental Medicine for the past 40-plus years, and counseling for the past 10. He has lived and practiced on Long Island, NY, in Charleston, WV, and for the past 44 years in Memphis, TN.
“To leave a legacy for my children and theirs so they would know me. As well as to express some of the wisdom I have accumulated over the past 83 years.”
He is divorced and has five children ranging from their 50s to 20s. He has written poetry since his teens and has evolved a philosophical style of free-form poetry, with a focus on emotion and positive attitude that has grown out of a lifetime of people-watching and experience.
His primary joys in life are his kids, and helping others succeed in their life endeavors — a thread that runs through every collection he’s written.
